Tyshawn Davis Is No Longer A Sleeper

Alabama Community College Conference is always a good spot to find a good sleeper or two. But the level of competition is always questioned so it takes a good evaluator of talent to trust their eye and take a chance. 6-foot-6 forward Tyshawn Mike Davis fits the mold of a player where you should definitely trust your eye.
Davis’s recruitment has really picked up after a rigorous non-conference schedule as Coastal Alabama-Monroeville had arguably one of the toughest nationally. The Eagles took on: Northwest Florida three times and almost won the first one at home to start the season. Each game was a battle. Pensacola State in a home and away matchup splitting the series. Eastern Florida, Gulf Coast State (FL), Chipola, South Georgia Tech, Atlanta Metro, Southwest Tennessee, Jones Co, Delgado and Lawson St.
His performances didn’t go unnoticed but it wasn’t from four year schools. It was the rival coaches who were fascinated by the 19-year old’s skill level and IQ that gave them fits. They began telling division-I coaches about Davis and even tweeting about how talented he was. This began a man hunt for the Brewton, Alabama product as the phones started ringing off the hook. Nicholls St and Sam Houston St didn’t waste much time getting on the road to see him and Arkansas-Little Rock followed. Nicholls St offered a scholarship on the spot after the Eagles annihilated the second best team in the south half of the conference. Arkansas-Little Rock, Florida Atlantic, Murray State, Louisiana-Monroe, Loyola Marymount, North Alabama, South Alabama and Troy all recently offered after seeing his 23 points and 10 rebound performance against Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette. Coastal Carolina, Hofstra, Jacksonville State, Morehead State and Sam Houston State are also heavily recruiting Davis and will more than likely offer soon.
Davis is averaging solid numbers this season, 16.7 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 54.1% from 3PT and 81.7% from the FT line. His season high was at Northwest Florida where he cashed in 35 points and started a buzz. ACCC schools aren’t on Synergy so watching film on guys is quite difficult for four year coaches but the fact that Head Coach Trey Brown scheduled so uniquely, most of their opponents are on Synergy making his players more accessible to be seen. Coach Brown’s efforts to play a very competitive non-conference schedule has not only prepared his team to dominate its conference, but also help his players’ recruitment by taking on strong teams in strong conferences.
Coastal Alabama-Monroeville has been dominant in conference play with a 19.3 point average margin of victory while averaging over 96 points per game. They travel this Thursday to take on Wallace-Selma at 7:30 pm.
