Lue Williams Commits To Tarleton State
Getting that offer you always wanted may not come when you want it, but God works in mysterious ways as He has done for Lue Williams. The leading scorer in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) also known as Region 22, recently committed to Tarleton State of the WAC Conference.
"It has forever been a dream to play division 1 basketball. I can truly say I have accomplished that, but my commitment to Tarleton State came through Coach Arnold. He drove nine hours just to come watch me play in a small town. In addition to that, he stayed overnight to speak with my mother and I the next day. For me, that sold it; anyone willing to do that shows that he must really want me!" said Williams.
Williams has been on a tear this season averaging 22.4 points and almost 6 rebounds with some incredible shooting percentages (59.7% FG - 45.9% 3FG). His efficiency comes with his patience and knowledge. It's uncommon for Williams to take a bad shot and he knows where his sweet spots are. He plays within the offense, which caters to him at times, but he also gets tough baskets around the rim on offensive put backs. The 6-foot-4 guard uses his strength and versatility to post smaller guards but also shoots it well from three when playing against a zone.
"From a team standpoint, I couldn’t be more proud of my guys in where we currently are in the season." Williams stated when asked how he feels the season is going. "We are currently 16-4 and on an 9 game win streak. We’ve overcome so much as a group on and off the floor." Coastal Alabama-South is arguably the best team in the southern half of the conference although they sit at #2 in the standings, they've beat every team in the south and their only losses come to northern teams as well as a close loss to #2 nationally ranked Northwest Florida State.
Tarleton State was the only division-I school to offer Williams and he didn't waste anytime waiting for anyone else to as he has for almost three years. "First and foremost, I would love to thank God for blessing me with a division 1 offer. I am big on “everything happens for a reason,” so if it took three years to get there; I would most definitely say it was worth the wait!"
There were a host of Division-II and NAIA programs that recruited Williams heavily including Delta State University, University of Virginia-Wise, University of Mobile, Ferris State University, Stillman College, Clinton College, Dillard University, University of West Alabama, Lincoln Memorial University, Lees-McRae University, University of West Florida, University of Texas Permian Basin, Lander University, Lyon College, Columbus State, St Marys University, Kings University, Miles College, and Fairmont State.
"I have loved each and every single moment here at Coastal. There’s nothing I would have changed along the way! I feel everything that I have done here and will leave here is true to who I am!"
