Four Year Signees In The Alabama Community College Conference
It’s not often that JUCO guys sign during the early signing period, but things have definitely changed here in recent years. The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) also known as Region 22 has been hot in the past with four year signees. This year has been rather different as seven guys have already signed on the dotted line for their next destination and all of them have plans to play at the division-I level next season.
Demajion Topps (5’11” PG – Bishop State) – Topps will be taking his talents to Morgan State in the MEAC conference next season. Unfortunately, he suffered a season ending injury recently but will be able to obtain a medical redshirt, giving him three more years to play. Topps is averaging 11.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game but came into his last game averaging a little over 13 points before he went down with an injury early in the first half against Delgado. He’s one of the quickest and most athletic guards in the country, especially for his size and will be a key contributor next season once he’s healthy to go.
Forte Prater (6’2” G – Bishop State) – Alabama A&M got a major steal in arguably the best on ball defender in junior college ranks. Prater is known for being a pesky defender and it has led to some easy offense for Bishop State. He has shown his athletic ability, crafty ball handling and high IQ plays this season. The SWAC will be exciting to watch as Prater will compete for Newcomer of the Year once he arrives on campus in Normal, Alabama next season. Prater is currently averaging 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.8 steals per game. He’s also shooting over 55% FG in less than 30 minutes per game.
Jerrell Bellamy (6’9” F/C – Chattahoochee Valley) – Bellamy really flew under the radar with his recruitment and I’m sure Troy was happy about that. The Trojans got one of the most athletic bigs around who is really efficient from the field. Bellamy is a pogo stick of an athlete but has also improved his range this season out to the three-point line. He’s averaging 12.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting a tad bit under 60% from the field. His 32.5% 3FG is not bad, especially for a big as he is shooting around 2-3 threes per game.
Greg Kennedy (6’8” F – Coastal Alabama-North) – Kennedy has yet to touch the floor for Coastal-North but has been recently cleared to play and I’m sure his impact will be felt around the conference. He’s a workhorse that gives multiple efforts and has a winning presence. Coastal-North is the top team in the southern half of the region right now with a 3-0 conference record and Kennedy should make them even better with his return. Bethune Cookman will be next seasons destination as we expect him to be a monster on the glass in Daytona, Florida.
Kintavious Dozier (6’1” PG – Gadsden State) – Grambling State is leading the SWAC right now with their big-time non-conference record and adding the NJCAA’s second leading scorer will only help them get better. Kintavious Dozier is a bucket and has been one since he stepped foot on campus at Gadsden State. He’s easily one of the best guards in the country and has some spectacular numbers to prove it. He’s currently averaging 26.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting over 50% from the field and over 41% from three. We’ve watched Dozier grown from a tiny high schooler to a grown man with increased athleticism, silky jumper and shiftiness to add to the repertoire.
Bryson Hall (6’8” F – Wallace-Hanceville) – Hall played the first four games this season but hasn’t played since then. Assuming he’s battling with an injury, the Southern Miss signee was very versatile during jamborees and showcases. The lefty has really improved his body and that has come with added explosion. His unselfishness and intensity should help him earn some minutes for the Golden Eagles who are on a roll this year with a 10-1 record and one of the best defensive teams in the country. They have good size all over the floor and that may be good thing for Hall to be able to fit in.
James Flippin (6’10” F – Wallace-Hanceville) – IUPUI came to the south to bring Flippin closer to home. The Milwaukee native battled with some injuries during jamboree season and has been coming off the bench for Wallace as he tries to knock the rust off. Flippin is known for his shooting ability as he a shooting a good percentage from the field at 52% and a little under 41% from three. The holiday break should give Flippin some time to rest up and recover and get back to his normal self.
