Demetrius Davis Has Emerged

It's not easy finding a guy at 6'8"-6'9" that moves and does the things that Demetrius Davis does. He runs the floor like a deer, can stroke it from three (off the catch or bounce), post, take you off the bounce and will battle for tough buckets. You're wondering, "If he can do all those things, why is he still available?" Oh don't worry, that won't last long. Coaches have been calling in to get to Lawson State in Birmingham, Alabama. "Demetrius has never been depended on as a basketball player." said Head Coach Stott Carter. Meaning he's just been a glue guy for most of his playing career. He is starting to accept the role as one of the key guys for Lawson State.
Davis's story is unique within itself, especially how he landed in junior college after transferring from Augusta University. We met Davis last summer while attending Juco Report's Top 150 as he was just a spectator cheering on friends. It would be a few weeks later his trainer, Dorian Lee made it his business to make sure his pupil was taken care of and in a spot where he could blossom.
"I played 3 games my freshman season and due to personal issues I couldn’t play during the Covid year so I was the camera man for the team. So I talked with my family and friends last summer and we came to the decision that I should believe in myself and the work that I put in these last two years and go the Juco route. With the help of Coach Dorian Lee, I gained interest from several junior colleges and I decided on Lawson State." said Davis.
"Out of high school I knew I had a lot of work to do. Honestly, I don’t think I was ready yet. But once I finished my freshman year I knew I had got a whole lot better in every aspect of my game. I met Coach Dorian Lee from Atlanta two years ago and he helped me take my game to the next level during the off season and breaks. It also helped I grew five inches last year." Those added inches as well as the development with Dorian Lee has turned Davis into a legitimate division-I prospect.
"My recruitment is going about how I thought it would go being an unknown kid popping up on the seen out of no where. I am trying to focus on the job we have right now and trying to help my teammates. I believe in Coach Carter and my mentors to help me out with the whole process!"
Head Coach Stott Carter said, "Demetrius is a kid I don't have to worry about getting a phone call at 2 am about him getting in trouble."
